““And still, after all this time, the Sun has never said to the Earth, ‘You owe me.’ Look what happens with love like that. It lights up the sky.” ”
Amie Redpath is a contemporary stone artist based at Whangārei Heads in Te Tai Tokerau, Aotearoa New Zealand.
Working across sculpture, functional objects and wearable forms, she carves basalt, andesite, argillite, pounamu and agate. Her material-led practice explores geological time, ecological relationships and the quiet intelligence of natural structures.
Raised in Southland and shaped by years spent working at sea, Redpath draws upon coastal environments, ancestral knowledge and the enduring memory held within stone. Each work is made slowly, allowing the character and resistance of the material to guide the emerging form.
Redpath is of Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Māmoe, Waitaha, Scottish, English and Manx descent.
Her work is held in private collections throughout New Zealand and internationally.
