The Kahurangi Kūtai, or mussel shell, carries deep significance in Māori culture — a symbol of strength, resilience, and nourishment. Hand-carved in Aotearoa from rare Kahurangi pounamu, this pendant draws inspiration from the traditions of mātaitai, the sustainable gathering of kaimoana (seafood), and the sacred relationship between people and place.

Its form honours the ocean’s abundance and the cycle of renewal. As a taonga (treasure), the Kūtai pendant offers a sense of grounding and protection while fostering harmony and emotional balance. Worn close to the heart, it serves as both adornment and story — connecting its wearer to the values of stewardship, cultural identity, and intergenerational knowledge.

Kahurangi pounamu is prized for its clarity and luminous green colour, often reserved for high-status pieces. This necklace is a one-of-a-kind expression of reverence for the natural world and the enduring wisdom of Māori tradition.

Each piece is hand-shaped and finished by Amie Redpath, sculptor of timeless, meaningful forms.
