This sculptural necklace represents the New Zealand short-tailed bat or Pekapeka. This nocturnal species, is endemic, and plays a significant role in seed dispersion and pollination of Aotearoa’s diverse ecosystem. Pekapeka are part of this balance in nature. Through my work, I wish to raise awareness of this bat, and the role of caring and guardianship to look after its environment. There are conservation groups in New Zealand whom this is especially important.
