Oyster I
Petrified Hardwood
Petrified through deep time, this work carries the memory of ancient forests and coastal landscapes.
Hand carved in Aotearoa from enduring natural materials, this sculptural piece draws inspiration from ocean ecologies and coastal forms. Part of the MOANA collection, it is created as a small sculpture of meaning—formed by earth, shaped by hand and worn close.
For me, oysters evoke memories of gathering kai with family along the coast, where food, place and connection come together. Carved from petrified wood—once living forest and now stone—this piece bridges land and sea, carrying a story measured not in years, but in geological time.
Dimensions
72 × 50 × 20 mm
